Automated pricing calculator and eCommerce system for US Printing Portal

Color Copy USA has been providing exceptional print services for over 37 years, serving the needs of non-profit organizations, churches, schools, corporations, and privately owned businesses nationwide.

As part of their eCommerce strategy to widen reach across the USA they wanted to build an automated pricing engine for the many types of printing that they offer as well as streamline their entire eCommerce infrastructure. 

Craig Champion Software Development was contracted to build this new systems due to their experience in building customized and bespoke eCommerce systems over a number of years.

Pricing engines for printing are complex due to the volume of variables that need to be taken into account (i.e. size, color, paper types, ink types, quantity etc) and the fact that pricing.Flexibility is key to this and building hard-coded calculator for every availability product would have very time consuming and extremely expensive. We needed to find a more flexible way to allow the client to build up their own products, variants and pricing structure. 

Working carefully with the client to understand the true flexibility required for such a calculator we went through a process of iteration and testing until we were able to build a web based tool that allows Color Copy USA to create and manage virtually any printing type product they wish without having to add additional coding to the overall system. They retain full control of what variables go in and how these should be priced, based on quantity and input decisions.

This system was then integrated into a custom Umbraco installation development by Craig Champion Software Development for eCommerce. This system supports artwork uploads, order customization as well as payment via Square and automated delivery pricing and options via Ship Station and UPS.

Since launch the website has reduced the administrative overhead for the client for managing such a site as well as making the ordering process for customer much easier, user friendly and instant.
